Sample magazine · Margin is a fictional editorial concept created to demonstrate magazine publishing in this Library.
A little space around the words
This first concept issue gathers three short editorial ideas around attention. It is a magazine for the interval between finishing one thing and deciding what comes next: a few pages to read, a question to keep, and space to make a note.
01 / Read with a question
Before opening a book, write one question at the top of a page. It does not have to be profound. What made this title catch your eye? What do you hope to understand? Return to that question after a chapter and notice whether the book has changed it.
02 / Keep the unfinished thought
A notebook does not need a conclusion on every page. Save the observation that has not become an argument yet. Give it a date and a little room. Some ideas become useful only after they meet a later experience.
03 / Leave a margin
Read a little less than your schedule permits. Use the remaining time to remember a detail without looking back at the page. The blank space around a reading habit is often what lets it become a thinking habit.

Margin · Issue 01 · Editor’s note
A margin is not wasted space. It is where a reader gets to answer.
